Alison Schatz

Metro Vancouver, NSMA Board Member

Alison is a strategic communications professional who specializes in behavior change communications. She has over a decade of experience, both agency- and client-side, working on topics from traffic safety to waste prevention. In her work at Metro Vancouver, Alison has been the strategist and lead behind two award-winning behavior change campaigns: "Food Scraps Aren't Garbage" (diverting food scraps from the landfill to the green bin) and "What's Your Superhabit?" (reducing single-use items).

Alison holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biology from Queen's University and a Master of Management from the University of British Columbia. She has completed training in Community-Based Social Marketing and Behavioral Insights, and enjoys mentoring others in strategy and behavior change. She is based in Vancouver, BC.

Christin D’Ovidio

Founder of Putney Consulting, SMANA Board Communications Chair

Founder of Putney Consulting, Christin D’Ovidio leverages programmatic, social marketing and communication expertise with 18+ yrs of partnerships in New England to foster relationships and sustainable initiatives. She is dedicated to behavioral science, smart data use, strengthening communities, human-centered design and new technology in her company’s work. Over her career, her teams at a global public health consulting firm and a state’s department of health have annually won awards (2015 – 2022, 2024) for excellence in marketing for public health and social good.

Christin received a BA with Communications minor from Mills College at Northeastern University, MFA from The New School for Social Research, and Graduate Certificate Degree in Social Marketing and Public Health from the University of South Florida. She is a Certified Communicator in Public Health (CCPH) through the National Public Health Information Coalition, and represents the Social Marketing Association of North America as Chair of the Board’s Communications Committee, as well as the Public Relations Society of America, Yankee Chapter as a Member of the Board.

Some of Christin’s passion areas include: substance use, youth positive protective factors, tobacco use treatment, climate and environmental health, and rural health and care access, as well as art, design and production. She is currently enrolled in the first US-based, AI-founded, AI-focused university to better integrate artificial intelligence into the work she does for human health and safety. Christin lives in New England, and a large body of her work is ingrained in the health of that region. Her heart will also always belong to the fine arts and theatrical production. She also enjoys taking time to grow and smell the fruits and flowers for her family and friends.

Dr. Doug McKenzie-Mohr

Founder, CBSM

For over four decades, Dr. Doug McKenzie-Mohr has worked to incorporate scientific knowledge on behavior change into the design and delivery of environmental programs. He founded community-based social marketing, a framework for developing environmental behavior change programs, which is now used globally. Doug is the author/co-author of three books on community-based social marketing — one of which, "Fostering Sustainable Behavior," has been recommended by Time Magazine and has become requisite reading for those who deliver environmental programs.   His work has been featured in the New York Times, and he is the recipient of the American Psychological Association's inaugural award for innovation in environmental psychology, the World Social Marketing Conference's inaugural award for contributions to the field of social marketing, and he is a B.F. Skinner distinguished lecturer. More than 75,000 program managers have attended his workshops. Doug is a former Professor of Psychology and is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Victoria and Royal Roads University in Victoria, Canada.

Heidi Siegelbaum

Washington State University, NSMA Board Member

Heidi has worked in natural resources for 30 years as a bridge between scientists and engineers and other important audiences. She practiced law for 10 years in criminal, managed health care and industrial chemicals and biotechnology products, including in-house counsel in EPA's New Chemicals Program.

She is a long term applied social scientist with experience in cognitive and behavioral psychology and was an early adopter of social marketing principles and approaches.

She serves on the Stormwater Strategic Initiative Lead Team for the Washington Stormwater Center at Washington State University. This team is building strategic capacity to address stormwater in Puget Sound.

A seasoned science communicator, she also managed a sustainable tourism consulting firm for over 10 years. Previously, Heidi was the Senior Analyst for Performance Management at the Washington State Department of Ecology. In that role she was the U.S. Co-Chair of the Salish Sea Ecosystem Indicators project which she led for 4 years.

She received her Juris Doctorate from Vermont Law School, a certificate in Industrial Ecology from Portland State University and is a WSU Watershed Steward.

Julie Colehour

C+C, NSMA Board Member

Julie believes that marketing can change the world for the better. So much so that she co-authored a book on the topic (The Environmental Marketing Imperative) and founded her communications agency C+C in 2005 to use social marketing principles to improve public health, recycling, reduce energy waste, inspire people to use public transit…and generally make world a healthier, happier place. Today, C+C is a national leader in cause-driven marketing, working with clients including REI, Nike, Alaska Airlines and ENERGY STAR. The agency's blend of social science, inspired creative and multicultural marketing expertise earned the it the titles of 2021 PRovoke Creative Agency of the Year and 2018 Boutique Agency of the Year from The Holmes Report (now PRovoke) and Small Agency of the Year from PR Week. Julie also leads C+C's team working with the Washington State Department of Health on their statewide COVID-19 campaigns, which was named Best of Show at the Public Relations Society of America's Silver Anvil Awards earlier this year. Outside of life at C+C, Julie serves as chair of the board for both Washington Conservation Voters and the Washington Environmental Council, skis a lot, sleeps a little and finds her happy place in the woods as often as possible.

Karyn Dudley

President, Social Marketing Association of North America (SMANA)

Karyn Dudley , MEd, CCPH is a former NH Communications Director with over twenty-two years of experience managing public health projects and creating and implementing social marketing efforts. Former lead of the award winning JSI-NH Health Communication Team, which brought together a wide range of talents, formative research, health communication, graphic design, creating and implementing social marketing behavior change campaigns and evaluation. Ms. Dudley's education includes a BS in marketing, a master’s degree in Counseling, a graduate certificate degree in social marketing for public health, and is a Certified Communicator in Public Health (CCPH).

Kristen Haley

Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board, NSMA President

Kristen Haley has a BS in Community Health Education from Western Washington University and has 15 years of experience working at the community and state levels. Kristen spent nearly ten years with the Washington State Department of Health where she managed statewide campaigns for suicide prevention, mental health promotion, cannabis prevention and education, tobacco prevention and cessation, opioid overdose prevention, and COVID-19 awareness and prevention. Kristen is the elected President of the Northwest Social Marketing Association Board of Directors. This role allows her to influence and support behavior change efforts across the region. In her current role at the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board, Kristen serves as the Public Health Education Liaison. She centers her work around audience and partner engagement, seeks upstream prevention strategies wherever possible, and believes that collaboration is critical to ensuring safe and healthy communities.

Lynda Bardfield

Vice President, Social Marketing Association of North America (SMANA); Chief Creative Officer, Creative Conscience

Lynda Bardfield crossed over from a career in multinational marketing as a Senior Vice President, Creative Director into the world of social marketing in the late eighties. Since then, she has spent the past three decades committed to applying marketing principles and innovation to social and behavior change.

Lynda’s career has spanned the globe, designing social marketing interventions in the U.S. and behavior change initiatives in Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Lynda’s unique global perspective and years of experience translating audience insights into award-winning campaigns makes her a valuable asset to SMANA’s Board of Directors. Her experience teaching social marketing at Tufts University School of Medicine, her contribution to the editorial board of the Social Marketing Quarterly, and her popular plenary presentations at the USF Social Marketing Conference, all translate into an immediate benefit for the NASMC Planning Committee.

Marilú Fernández-Haddad

Universidad de las Americas Puebla (UDLAP), Mexico, SMANA Board Member

Marilu Fernandez-Haddad is a Titular Professor in the Marketing Department at the Universidad de las Americas Puebla (UDLAP) in Mexico. At a professional level, she has worked on communication campaigns and social marketing interventions in Mexico, Spain, and the United States. She has participated in various conferences and published articles in academic journals. Additionally, she is a member of the Mexican National System of Researchers (SNI) and serves on the board of the Social Marketing Association of North America.

Nancy Lee

Social Marketing Services, NSMA Board Member

Nancy has spent more than 25 years in the Social Marketing sector. She consults on the strategic development of social marketing campaign; is a teaching associate at the University of Washington where she teaches social marketing; has written 12 books with Philip Kotler on social marketing; has provided social marketing workshops around the world; and is a strategic advisor on social marketing campaigns developed by C+C, a communications firm in Seattle that is All About the Good. Because she is committed to getting Social Marketing in Orbit by 2025, she is also active in associations such as the Northwest Social Marketing Association, Social Marketing Association of North America (SMANA) and the International Social Marketing Association (iSMA) where she has been teaching an online professional certificate course for social marketing.

Patrick Cook

Cook & Sow

Patrick Cook is a social marketing professional with more than 25 years helping communities, government agencies, universities, and international organizations enable social and behavior change. Patrick has developed and delivered multiple campaigns and programs for clients such as the CDC Foundation, Johns Hopkins University, National Institutes of Health (NIH), US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), UNICEF, USAID, and the World Bank Group. In his work with these groups, Patrick has led the planning, implementation, and evaluation of health communication and marketing programs that promote health and well-being, prevent disease and violence, and advance organizational priorities. Formerly of ICF, FHI 360, and IQ Solutions, he currently leads his own consulting firm, Cook & Sow, and is the past president of the International Social Marketing Association. A native of Vancouver, BC, he is based in Washington, DC.

Preeti Shridhar

Commissioner, Woodinville Water District, NSMA Board Member

Preeti Shridhar is a dedicated public servant with over 30 years of experience, known for her significant contributions to environmental conservation, economic development, and social equity. As the first woman of color elected to the Water District, she has consistently demonstrated her commitment to public service and community improvement.

Preeti was instrumental in Seattle's urban sustainability efforts, launching nationally acclaimed recycling and conservation programs and creating social marketing and behavior change initiatives resulting in environmentally friendly practices. She championed Seattle's Climate Change Initiative, led affordable housing initiatives, and established Renton's first Equity, Housing, and Human Services Department, addressing social equity, housing affordability, and access to essential services. Through these efforts, Preeti set new standards for urban sustainability, economic development, and social equity.

Preeti serves on several regional boards, contributing her expertise to various civic and nonprofit organizations. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Catherine's University and an MBA from the University of Minnesota. Active in her community, Preeti dedicates her time to family, local events, and mentoring young professionals.

Rob Sadowsky

Clackamas County, NSMA Board Member

Rob, the Transportation Safety Outreach Coordinator for Clackamas County has more than thirty years of government and nonprofit experience in housing, economic development and alternative transportation. His work focuses on building a culture of safe driving in Clackamas County through marketing, outreach and policy work.

He has served as an executive director of The Street Trust in Portland, Oregon; the Active Transportation Alliance in Chicago; and the Chicago Mutual Housing Network. He conducts training and strategic planning workshops for emerging organizations. As a board member for the Northwest Social Marketing Association, he has chaired the successful SPARK Conference for the past two years.

Campaigns developed under Clackamas County while Rob has served has included the award-winning Phone Chill campaign to reduce distracted driving; Friends Like Us, a campaign to reduce driving under the influence of cannabis and is currently working on a new campaign entitled Safety Drives Us to reduce the most egregious driving behaviors including speeding and distracted driving. In addition to broad campaigns, Rob works on delivering in-school presentations in high school, community fairs and festivals, and participates in programs aimed at reducing alcohol and drug use amongst families.

In Rob’s private time, he is an avid amateur photographer, chef and mixologist. He can be found hiking various trails with his Lagotto Romagnolo Rolo and his wife, Stacey – or curled up in front of a fire with a book of crossword puzzles.

Stephanie Thomas

Cascadia Consulting Group, NSMA Vice-President

Stephanie brings nearly 15 years of experience with all aspects of sustainability outreach, engagement, and behavior change programs—from research, planning, and design to implementation, marketing, management, and evaluation. Stephanie has helped thousands of businesses in communities all over the west coast address barriers and change behavior to save water and energy, reduce waste, prevent pollution, enhance mobility, and mitigate climate change impacts. Stephanie holds a B.A. (with honors) in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, and Resource Management from the University of Washington. She joined the Northwest Social Marketing Association Board in 2018. When she isn't helping motivate behavior change to save the planet, you'll likely find her biking around the beautiful Pacific Northwest or traveling the world.

Tracey Haldeman

President of the Social Marketing Foundation of North America (SMFNA) & President, Pinnacle Communications

Tracey is President of the Social Marketing Foundartion of North America (SMFNA). As the President of SMFNA and past president of SMANA Tracey has been at the forefront of advancing the field of social marketing. She is also the President and owner of Pinnacle Communications, a leading social marketing agency located in Baltimore, Maryland. Her extensive experience and leadership roles in these organizations reflect her commitment to driving positive change.

She has been a practitioner in the field of social marketing, brand development, advertising and behavior change communication for over three decades. Tracey has a deep understanding of designing and implementing strategies for campaign success. Her most recent projects include opioid misuse and abuse prevention, binge drinking prevention, smoking cessation and prevention, reduction of infant mortality, diabetes prevention and control, binge drinking prevention, and a multitude of projects for environmental protection and sustainability. Her dedication to these causes has led to tangible improvements in public health and environmental sustainability. Tracey’s ability to apply social marketing principles to such diverse challenges underscores her adaptability and creativity.

Tracey’s commitment to advancing the field of social marketing extends to academic contributions as well. In 2009 she contributed to Social Marketing Quarterly with her article “Implementing a Community-Based Social Marketing Program to Increase Recycling”. Her research has continued to influence the field, as evidenced by her 2022 contribution, “Using Community-Based Social Marketing to Reduce Pet Waste Bacteria in Streams,” also published in Social Marketing Quarterly. 

Tracey holds a master’s degree in Communication, Culture & Technology from Georgetown University.
